Business License Bylaw Amendments

November 24, 2017

Press Release – For Immediate Release

Rossland, BC - The City of Rossland has recently undertaken activities in relation to a comprehensive review and updating of our current Local Business Licence practices. As a result of above, a new Business Licence Bylaw (#2326) was formally adopted by Council in October 2017. A summary of the key amendments are provided below:

  1. Reducing the current annual fee structure by approximately 25-35% and consolidating licence categories;
  2. Additional clarification around licence periods, payment and associated fines regarding possible non-compliance;
  3. Re-organization of sections /numbering / titles to ensure easier readability, accessibility and clarity of language – with some sections being abbreviated;
  4. Consolidation of definitions into one Schedule (A) and minor changes/additions to current definitions ensuring they remain relevant; and
  5. Inclusion of new requirements for short term rental accommodations to support and align with the recent Zoning Bylaw amendments undertaken.

City Staff have been busy completing activities required to properly plan for and administer these new changes. Further information related to these initiatives are planned to be released in early December and will include the provision of sending updated information (including their new fee structure) to existing Business Licence holders, development of an information package for potential new Business Licence holders and the creation of a new, easier and convenient Business Licence application.
