News Release

Trails adjacent the Kootenay-Columbia area (above or north of Iron Colt) that are located on Crown lands may be affected by Wildfire Hazard Mitigation Fuel Treatment work scheduled to take place from October 3 - October 20, 2019.

The fuel reduction work is being performed to specifications designed to maintain the wilderness aesthetic of these areas while reducing the fire hazard in a significant way. Larger trees will be pruned with some dead trees being selected for removal. Thick layers of surface debris and old piles of slash and brush will be removed as well.

The majority of debris disposal will involve chip and spread on the areas - some pile burning may take place on steeper sites.

This work will take place adjacent sections of the Techno Grind, KC trails and very short sections of Pale Ale and North Star trails (marked in red below).

There will be NO garbage collection on Wed. Dec 25/19 &  Wed. Jan. 1/20.

Alpine will pick up these missed days on the following day (Thursday's) Dec. 26/19 & Jan. 2/20, along with the regular Thursday collections.

Recycling in Rossland (Wed. Jan.1/20) will be collected the day before (Tues. Dec. 31/19) as indicated in the recycle BC guide and on line.
