DESIGN CHARRETTES
In the summer of 2012 the Ministry of Transportation will be resurfacing Columbia Avenue. In conjunction with the resurface, the City of Rossland will replace the aging infrastructure along Columbia Avenue. This also provides the community an opportunity to enhance the downtown and make it the functional, economic and social space you envision for your City.
City Council directed staff to conduct a series of Design Charrettes to gather input on the redesign of Columbia Ave. The first Charrette was held on May 27, 2010 and the second on July 15, 2010. The third and final Charrette was on September 16, 2010.
Planning and landuse decisions for the City are also guided by the Official Community Plan; the redesign of Columbia Avenue and Washington street will help to advance Rossland's OCP. OCP policies call for a design that is pedestrian and bike friendly and improves the attractiveness of downtown.
