By Road

Rossland and Red Mountain Resort are located within the West Kootenay region of Southern British Columbia. We are 10 kilometres North of the Canada/US border, a 2.5 hour drive from the Spokane, WA International Airport, a 3.5 hour drive from Kelowna, BC International Airport, a 30 minute drive from the West Kootenay Airport in Castlegar, or 15 minute drive from the Trail Airport. By Air

Rossland is serviced by three neighbouring airport locations. Whether you are travelling from the USA, abroad or from within British Columbia itself, you will be sure to find an airport that will complete your trip itinerary and provide you with the transportation services you require. From rental car agencies, to convenient shuttle services, our neighbor airport locations have what you are looking for.

There are various shuttle services from each of the airports listed below. Visit Tourism Rossland’s Travel section for schedules and services.

The Trail Regional Airport is only a 15 minute drive from Rossland and is serviced by Pacific Coastal Airlines providing daily flights from Vancouver and Kelowna.

The West Kootenay Regional Airport is only a 30 minute drive from Rossland and is presently served by Air Canada Express, with daily flights to both Vancouver and Calgary on Dash-8 aircraft.

The Spokane International Airport is only a 2.5 hours drive from Rossland. The drive is a low altitude, easy route with a 24 hour border crossing at Patterson.

The Spokane Airport has direct flights connecting Portland, Seattle, Boise, Los Angeles, Oakland, Phoenix, Denver, Salt Lake City, Chicago, and Minneapolis.

Fly to Cranbrook, BC with Air Canada via Calgary, AB and Vancouver, BC.  Cranbrook is a 3.5 hour drive to Rossland crossing the highest mountain pass in Canada, the Salmo-Creston Kootenay Pass.

Canadian Rockies International Airport (YXC)

Fly to Kelowna, BC International Airport with Air Canada, WestJet, United or Alaska. Kelowna is approximately a 4 hour drive to Rossland.

Kelowna International Airport (YLW)

Fly to Penticton, BC Regional Airport, serviced by Air Canada, Cascadia Air, Pacific Coastal Airlines and WestJet, you can connect with the rest of the province, Canada and the world.

Need to move about while you are here visiting? We have a variety of options available to you ranging from bike rentals, to complimentary or paid shuttle services.

Operated by BC Transit, West Kootenay Transit serves communities throughout the region, including Rossland, Trail and Castlegar and surrounding communities.  Rossland’s route number is Route 46.  To plan your bus trip visit BC Transit.

Fixed-route service is divided into four areas:

  • Nelson and Area: Nelson, Balfour, Blewett
  • Slocan and Area: Playmor Junction, Passmore, Winlaw, Perry Siding, and Slocan City
  • Castlegar and Area
  • Trail and Area: Trail, Rossland, Fruitvale
  • As well as regional connector routes: 98 and 99.

Additional Health Connections and Paratransit services connect other regional destinations and smaller communities.

During the winter ski season, the Rossland Ski Bus runs between various points in Rossland and RED Mountain Resort. Starting early in the morning, the bus will get you to the mountain by the first chair, and back to town after the last chair, or anytime in between.​
