Backcountry Touring: An extensive ridge system connects Granite Mountain with a number of nearby peaks. Once on top of Granite you can skin up to the top of any of four different peaks in the space of an hour. Be sure to check the Canadian Avalanche Association's avalanche bulletin (www.avalanche.ca) before venturing into the backcountry and always carry appropriate equipment. Kootenay Pass is a one-hour drive East on Highway 3. This alpine pass has the altitude, terrain and snow to offer unlimited ski touring right off the highway.
